Michael Taylor

Michael Taylor works as External Affairs Advisor at Manchester Metropolitan University alongside the Vice-Chancellor Malcolm Press and the Chancellor Lord Mandelson on initiatives to make the University the best connected in the country. These include high level business engagement and projects around Greater Manchester Devolution and the Northern Powerhouse.
This builds on a career as an award winning business journalist and editor.
He has worked as a consultant for Seneca, KPMG, government-backed coaching service GrowthAccelerator, JMW Solicitors, the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW), Daisy Group and the Prince’s Trust.
He has also led a number of workshops and creative programmes for private businesses and through 2014-15 he led a long term project on the future of accountancy practices for the ICAEW called Tomorrow's Practice.
He produced a white paper on city growth strategy for Manchester, which was presented to the Deputy Prime Minister and the chief executive of Manchester City Council.
He was a parliamentary candidate for the 2015 General Election in Hazel Grove, recording the party’s highest ever vote and share in that constituency.
He worked on the stakeholder branding and the touring roadshow to launch the GrowthAccelerator service in October 2012 in 8 English cities and has fronted major corporate internal events for large corporates, charities and public sector organisations.

In 2013 he has developed an employee engagement and brand development project for a Seneca, a new investment and fund management business, interviewing every member of staff, external stakeholders and running a series of internal workshops and events.
He is a frequent commentator on business issues on the BBC and has media-trained the senior management team of a major firm of accountants and a leading retail property business.
Previous to his recent events role he was the editorial director of publishing group Insider and won many awards for his investigative journalism and business commentary. In 2013 he founded DISCUSS, a new debating forum designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity and discourse.
His debut novel 40 by 40 was published in 2015, a comic novel set amidst the financial crisis of 2008.
He is also a non-executive director of Liberty Pensions, New Charter Housing and is on the board of the University of Manchester Alumni Association.
